How to choose a bag

Bags are some of the most important accessories in everyone's wardrobe. Since it serves not only as an accessory, but also has to be comfortable, it is sometimes excessively hard to choose the right one.

First of all you should define what purpose it serves and where you intend to use it. The question is whether you need it more as an accessory or as something useful outside the scope of aesthetics. The difference between the two is mostly in size. If you need a bag as an accessory you should pick a smaller one and it should be noticeable. If your bag serves the lone purpose of carrying things, which you need for your job or studies, it should be bigger, more comfortable and simpler.

The most important thing is to match it to your style. For example if you prefer a sporty style - pick a satchel. If you are more into a bohemian style - it should be larger, worn on one shoulder and made of original material. Elegant women should choose middle-sized neutral colored leather bags.

Don't forget that bags also go out of fashion, so if you want to look trendy, you should purchase at least one new bag every year. For example, this year, bags with lots of metal details are at the top. No matter what style you prefer, you can always find something suitable for you and trendy at the same time.

Before purchasing a bag, always check what color dominates in your wardrobe. Don't forget that you'll wear it daily so it has to go perfectly with the majority of your clothes and shoes. If you notice that there is no dominating color, your wardrobe is very colorful - buy a colorful bag, so it'll be easy to match it with anything you wear.

While choosing a bag as an accessory more than as a thing for carrying, have in mind one rule - the smaller the better. Small handbags are very elegant and can make for a very nice hint of style. Nothing can substitute a small black handbag, with small jewels if you want to give off an effect of a luxurious and elegant woman.

When it comes to bags for men, the same rules apply, only it is a lot easier. First of all, consider what you are going to use it for. Is it a bag for carrying various papers, books and other similar things, or do you need it only for your cell phone, documents and wallet

. In the first case, you should define you style (for example, sporty, saggy, punk, elegant) and choose the bag accordingly. The easiest way out in this case is a simple black one-shoulder bag made of leather. The small variant is even easier - it doesn't have to perfectly fit your style, because usually they go perfectly with anything.

Basically, the most important thing is to consider is the purpose of your bag. When you define its use just match it with your style. Don't forget to check out the colors of your wardrobe or you'll have to purchase a number of them instead of having one that fits your wardrobe perfectly.

Select Jewelry Show to debut

New York--The Select Jewelry Show, a new vendor-organized, by-invitation event, will debut this year in San Francisco, followed by a second show in Dallas.

In both cities, the show will take place at the luxury hotel The Ritz-Carlton, with the San Francisco event taking place Aug. 22 and 23, and the Dallas event slated for Sept. 26 and 27.

The goal of the event, according to the show's Web site, is "to create an intimate buying atmosphere for its members."

Exhibitor members for the 2010 events include Alisa, Bellarri International Fine Jewelry, Brazilian Boutique, Breuning, Color Merchants, Color Story by Robert Leser, Dove's Jewelry Designs, Elite Designs, Frank Rubel Designs, Frederic Sage, Gottlieb and Sons, Gumuchian, I. Reiss, Icerok, Jenny Perl, Kimberly Collins Colored Gems, KC Designs, Leddel International, Makur Designs, Michael Werdiger, Norman Covan, PeJay Creations, Raymond Hak, Royal Pearl, Sethi Couture, The Henderson Collection, Timeless Designs by Jacob and Bryan, Tony Maccabi Designs, V-By and Yael Designs.

Select Jewelry Show co-founder Joe Carullo, of KC Designs, told National Jeweler that the show was, in part, inspired by the high costs that exhibitors face when participating in larger jewelry shows.

"We as an industry need to start fostering inexpensive, small shows," he said.

While the 2010 events will take place in San Francisco and Dallas this year, the show template--aimed at providing retailers and suppliers with an elegant, comfortable environment--is one that could be used in additional cities in the future, Carullo said, with Chicago being a next possible location.

Retailers interested in attending either the San Francisco or Dallas events, or vendors interested in participating, are invited to contact Carullo at (212) 921-9270.

Looking for men

Elgin police continue to search for two men who robbed a downtown jewelry store at gunpoint Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to Shockey Jewelers at 12:02 p.m. on a report of an armed robbery. According to police, two men entered the store and one of them displayed a handgun.

Nobody was injured during the robbery in the 0-99 block of Douglas Avenue, about a block away from the Elgin police station, and the suspects made off with an unknown amount of jewelry.

Because of the ongoing investigation, police were not releasing the nature of the jewelry or its worth. Shockey has done business in Elgin since 1977 and specializes in diamonds and antique jewelry.

The first suspect is described as a Latino man, 25 to 30 years old, with a heavy build and a height of 5 feet 9 inches. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap.

Police say the second suspect is a Latino man between 30 to 40 years old with a heavy build. He also was described as standing 5 feet 9 inches.

The Elgin Police Department's major investigations division has taken over the case and is asking anyone with information to call detectives at (847) 289-2615 or the anonymous crime tip line at (847) 695-4195.

In response to a post

In response to a post discussing the importance of return on invested capital (ROIC), a reader asked an interesting question which raises a number of points which are relevant to the value investor. The comment was as follows:

Lets say I would have to choose between two investments ..True Religion Apparel (TRLG) with a ROIC(TTM) of 50% and Joes Jeans (JOEZ) with a ROIC of 10% (TTM), you would favor TRLG even though JOEZ might be a young company with a "growth" story?

The question is seemingly simple, but the process to answer it is anything but! There are a number of items that must be considered, each of which has the potential to add substantial complexity (i.e. in a very non-linear manner, as discussed here).

First of all, while it is true that in general a higher ROIC is better than a lower ROIC, the time frame over which the ROIC is measured must be considered. Here, with the "TTM" notation, the commenter is stating that these ROIC numbers are based on the last twelve months ("Trailing Twelve Months"). But a lot can happen in twelve months, including asset sales (for both gains or losses), one-time drops/increases in demand, and other items that can affect whether the last year is truly representative of a company's earnings power. For this reason, value investors prefer to look at returns over longer time periods to assess a company's earnings power.

One's circle of competence must also be considered. For example, personally I know nothing of this industry nor of these companies. As such, I don't have the ability to attest as to whether one or both of the ROIC's of these companies is sustainable. This is very important because a high ROIC invites competition, which in turn brings down returns unless the company has a competitive advantage that keeps its competitors at bay. Past returns may be terrific, but here the investor must determine whether future returns are likely to be kind as well.

Relatedly, the fact that one company is labelled a "growth story" (as is done in the comment) is also worth noting. Value investors don't usually like "stories" unless they are backed up by ROIC numbers over the course of a number of years. In this case, it is the low ROIC company that is purported to be the growth story. But while earnings momentum looks great and the market tends to extrapolate growth rates going forward, value investors aren't willing to pay for expectations of future growth. The growth has to be borne out first, as value investors don't like to play the role of the venture capitalist.

Finally, this would not be a post on the subject of value investing if the question of price was not considered. One could have the best return on capital in the world, but if high expectations are baked into the price, the investment has little appeal to the value investor. To that end, the companies' respective debt/cash levels should also be considered to help determine the risk inherent in each investment.

Sell handbags

Mean Girl Lindsay Lohan (and even a spilt one as such) is all set to courting another controversy as she plans to shed clothes (the bits and pieces that she wears at times) in order to sell her handbags.

The actress (oops, Did I call her an actress) of Freaky Friday already leads a life of a chained mammal as a SCRAM bracelet lies dangling to her ankle in order to keep a check on her alcohol count.

But, the executive of The California Bag, Richard Luna reveals his plans to request the police officials to unchain LiLo so that they may go ahead with a hassle-free photo shoot (“We’re thinking of having the police on hand so we can remove the ankle bracelet for the pictures.”)

The bags would cost a whopping $200-$600 at Nordstrom, US while some pocket friendly ones shall be available at Macy’s.

Meanwhile, news had been rife that Lindsay is working with Los Angeles clothing firm Ed Hardy to promote a host of handbags.

A source from contact music informs, “Lindsay and the design team at Ed Hardy have mutual friends, and they knew she was interested in looking for a handbag license and partner. They thought she’d be a good fit and so did she.

As of last week, there are three collections in development and numerous more are expected. Lindsay is very directly involved with the project, and she’s always pulling things online and from magazines for ideas.”

It’s said those who are short on popularity try to sell stuff with no clothes on. And LiLo is an experienced candidate in such a kind of marketing………. Just like Pamela Anderson or a Paris Hilton
